12. June 2018 | UNEP-DHI Eco Challenge 2018 has started!

The first Aqua Republica competition as part of the UNEP-DHI Eco Challenge 2018 took place from 5th to 7th June 2018 at the St. James Catholic College on Tasmania, Australia.

12. June 2018 | Aqua Republica Class at Ewoo Middle School, South Korea

On 29th May, Econom Korea organized the first Aqua Republica class for students in South Korea. 20 students from Ewoo Middle School particpated in the class.

6. June 2018 | Aqua Republica at IFAT 2018 in Munich

On 16 and 17 May 2018, the University Challenge under the auspices of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and implemented by the German Association of Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) took place at IFAT in Munich. The program gives qualified youngsters the chance to connect with experts of relevant companies and increase their skills in the development of strategies of sustainable water use management. One of the disciplines was supported by DHI and gave young talents the chance to play the Water Scarcity Version of Aqua Republica. Thereby, they achieved a better understanding of the relationship between water usage, social and economic development and environmental sustainability. In total, 14 international teams participated. The winning teams from abroad competed against participants from German Universities. The team of the Technical University of Vienna achieved the best performance and won the University Challenge.

22. May 2018 | Aqua Republica Serious Game Workshop – Pretoria, South Africa

On 19 April 2018, EkoSource in partnership with DHI and The Innovation Hub hosted a successful one day Water Scarcity Serious Games workshop in Pretoria. The attendance was from a variety of fields of practices, including Catchment Management Agency officials, Danish Embassy representative, student, a Professor from one of the local institutions as well as consultants from the neighboring country, Lesotho.

Positive feedback was received by all individuals who enjoyed playing and interacting with the game. Feedback highlighted the following aspects, the game provided insight into water resources management and planning in an educational manner, the impacts associated with different land-use impacts were clearly demonstrated, the interventions related to different policy implementation were clear and the game provided an effective framework in which to learn about different water related impacts and the effectiveness of different interventions.

Suvritha Ramphal from the Danish Embassy was quoted as saying that:

The concept of the game is fantastic! I strongly recommend water specialists to try this out if they have not already. I gained valuable insight into the planning and developmental challenges associated with the need for more energy and water to stimulate economic development.

26. April 2018 | Aqua Republica Inspiring High School Students from New Dehli

On Thursday 19th April, 48 Indian High School students between the age of 13 and 17 visited DHI as part of an initiative organized by the Danish Water Forum (DWF). The students came a long way from 4 different High Schools in New Dehli (Springdates School, Dehli Public School Gurgaon, Mnava Bharati India International School and Dehli Public School Greater Noida).  In two session of one hour, the students learned about the concepts and challenges of integrated water resources management by playing Aqua Republica. It was a great learning experience and fun sessions.
